Google + Project ‘Sparks’ a Promising Competitor of Existing Social Network Sites

Somewhere in the early 2000, we were all into Friendster, that is, until Facebook came along. Then the previous Friendster users became instant Facebook converts along with the upgrade of its features. Suddenly, Friendster became history and Facebook was so successful that other social networking sites such as Twitter, Tumblr, Plurk, and Formspring rode on with the craze and get to be successful on their own. But now that Google is making its own social network site called Google+/Sparks, the million-dollar question is this: will Google + finally make Mark Zuckerberg get a taste of his own medicine?

Google created this social network project because they believe that online sharing is broken and that this sharing engine could fix it.  Still, Google maintains that Facebook will not be a direct competitor. Really now.

“Thanks to Google’s web expertise, Sparks delivers a feed of highly contagious content from across the Internet,” the company says. “On any topic you want, in over 40 languages. Simply add your interests, and you’ll always have something to watch, read and share—with just the right circle of friends.” Hmm…what’s the diff?

What’s the difference between Facebook and Google+? If Facebook features friends list, Google+ has what they call “circles” which represents your circle of friends. Furthermore, Google says that their site will allow for ‘more privacy’ for the users as compared to Facebook which operates from sharing. Apart from that, users get to use various Google products while they are using Google+.

Whether this project would be a hit or miss, it’s ‘Google‘ so that alone should a reason for people to take notice by the time this project will be launched.
