There was a time in my life when I did not like coffee at all. I never really appreciated it until I got to my later high school years when I realized that I actually needed it. Now, it’s still a journey of coffee appreciation, but I’m glad that I got to discover a place in Katipunan that taught me a lot more than I would expect about coffee.
The Fat Seed Cafe + Roastery is a newly opened coffee spot that offers single origin coffee and more. They have coffee beans from all across the country and around the world! From Benguet to Columbia and even Kenya, they’ve got specialty coffee that will take you around the globe.
Aside from the various destinations that these beans came from, The Fat Seed also has quite a range of choices when it comes to brewing the coffee. I’ve learned that the different brewing methods can bring out different flavors out of the coffee beans. This cafe definitely gives you a coffee experience you’ve never tasted before.

What I loved was that the bartender actually taught us a lot about coffee beans, the various brewing methods, the flavors, and even how to sip correctly to get that full blast of flavor! I felt like I was at a coffee drinking class, and I’ve never truly appreciated coffee until then.
Specialty Coffee // starts at PHP 135
Just when I thought that the coffee experience couldn’t get any better, the food was brought out. The Fat Seed’s cuisine is described as prominent comfort food with a wild twist. You could find your favorite childhood meals here but modified to a new dish that will give you both nostalgia and a mindblowing food experience.
Wagyu Pares // PHP 305
For example, they’ve got the mouthwatering Wagyu Pares that’s served in a metal lunch box that would send you straight back to your childhood.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Ube Waffle in Salted Egg Sauce // PHP 325
They also did a Pinoy twist to the waffle and chicken, creating the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Ube Waffle in Salted Egg Sauce. It is definitely something new to the tastebuds, but it was actually inspired by the puto bumbong, which is why it can easily remind you of Christmas mornings and simbang gabi.
Hotate Soy Cream Pasta // PHP 385
Their pasta dishes are also out of this world. I personally loved the Hotate Soy Cream Pasta, which is a type of Japanese pasta. To say that it’s flavorful is definitely an understatement. This pasta dish is bursting with delicious flavor.
Chili Garlic Bacon Pasta // PHP 265
If you’re one who enjoys pasta with not much sauce, the Chili Garlic Bacon Pasta could be the best pick for you. It’s got just the right amount of flavor and slightly spicy kick that anyone can enjoy.
Mushroom Fritters // PHP 175
As for appetizers, the Mushroom Fritters are definitely a must-try. The fritters combined with their homemade ketchup will keep you reaching for another piece until you suddenly realize that they’re gone. It’s just that good.
The Fat Seed Signature Porkchop // PHP 395
For mains, The Fat Seed Signature Porkchop is melt-in-your-mouth tender made tasty with beer brine. plus a deli mustard sauce and sweet potato puree. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed porkchop as much as I did at The Fat Seed.
I went to this new cafe not expecting to have my ultimate food adventure for the month. The Fat Seed definitely gave me an experience beyond just having a cup of coffee. The place offers an encounter with coffee and great comfort food that will stay with you even after you’ve stepped out of its doors.
