FEELS: This Poignant Video Shows the Tragedy of Two People Living Parallel Lives

“If two lines are truly parallel, it means they’ll never actually meet.”

This is the message this video by The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is telling us. When two people live so similarly, there is a tragedy here as they might never actually meet–they are simply too parallel.

The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, if you are not familiar yet, is a website and YouTube channel that creates poetic and visual descriptions for feelings we have no word for; for feelings that are quite difficult to explain.

In this new short film created by the channel, titled “Moment of Tangency: A Glimpse of What Might Have Been,” several original home film submissions were sifted through only to look for parallel scenes, which goes full circle to what the video is all about–two strangers living similar moments, passing by the same places, feeling the same emotions, but never actually meeting.

The film is a poignant take on one of the most common human tragedies–passing by people we could have been great with–and the result is nothing short of moving. Watch:
