When in Manila and dealing with the exhausting work our jobs entail, one of our resorts to relieve ourselves from stress is shopping. Hello, new clothes! Welcome, new shoes! Goodbye, money!

Shopping is our guilty pleasure. However, most of the time, what we reward ourselves with only gives us a shallow level of self-fulfillment. How gratifying does it sound if shopping for your own luxury equates to providing help for the less fortunate children in the country? With The Carrier Pigeon Project or TCPP, it is very likely. You do not only follow trends, but you keep children away from the labor force and hand them a chance to experience what they deserve: go to school.

(I personally chose a pair of Echo flats which has a polished, sleek and sexy look. These are available in tan, too.)

For children, education is the key towards a brighter future, yet a large count of 5.5 million (out of the 29 million children in the country) are engaged in child labor due to living below the poverty line. The Carrier Pigeon Project is a dynamic keepsake to us that in our current situation and lifestyle, we can do something about this.

When you buy any item from The Carrier Pigeon Project, a percentage of their sales will contribute as proceeds to sponsorship programs that feed and send children to school and help in the construction of classrooms. Just this year, they have organized outreach programs where they spend time with abandoned kids, providing them with a day of purely fun activities along with donations in kind.

What’s more interesting is that even The Carrier Pigeon Project’s customers are actively participating in this act of generosity. Quoting the words behind the brand’s story, “Fashion isn’t just about passion. It’s also about compassion”. Who knew that through fashionable purchases, we can extend a big help to youngsters in need?

(The owners started what they call “passion project” last September 25, 2013. They’ve always believed that everyone should get a fighting chance at pursuing his/her dreams.)

Show your creativity with the trendy styles of items from The Carrier Pigeon Project. They have an array of nicely designed bags that will adhere to the taste of the fashionable. More than that, they have styles for every personality. Also in their line are shoes that are guaranteed to have great quality, made with materials sourced from Hongkong and Taiwan.

Their shoes’ designs are creatively thought by the owners themselves (siblings Jezze and Riz Jao) and are proudly Philippine-made. I’m currently enjoying the shoes I got from them. Apart from looking stylish, I can wear my sandals all day without my feet hurting, so kudos to the comfort that they bring!

Normally, a business provides a win-win situation for both the company and the consumers. As for The Carrier Pigeon Project, if there were such a thing as a three-way win, I would personally describe it as that. Most often than not, when we look good, we feel happy. With beautiful items we can purchase, we can look good, feel good and make other people feel happy all at the same time.

The Carrier Pigeon Project not only lets us be a part of the fashion bandwagon, but also of a social responsibility that helps give the youth a promising future. The brand is a movement that will positively make the fashion industry better than it is already now, by means of letting their advocacy reach greater heights, hand in hand with us, their communally responsible consumers.

(This summer, their main goal is to come up with school kits to donate to underprivileged kids before the coming school year starts.)

Filipinos are charitable citizens in nature, although sometimes, we don’t know where to start, or worse, some people are unaware that they have the means. With The Carrier Pigeon Project in the lead, disfavoring the barriers becomes so much more effortless.

When in Manila and wanting to shop, our pleasures don’t always have to come with guilt anymore since shopping for a cause is now made easy. With The Carrier Pigeon Project, one thing is for sure: there is more to fashion than meets the eye.
