The 7107 Aftermath: Is a Part 2 in Order?
When in Manila, it was practically impossible not to get caught up in the hype of the 7107 International Music Festival. While some people were sad because they found the tickets to be over-priced and others were outraged because they were hoping to see other bands perform at the festival, the When in Manila gang trooped on over to Clark, Pampanga with smiles on our faces and ready to find out what 7107 could offer us.
The 7107 Aftermath: Is a Part 2 in Order?
7107 was the first of its kind in the Philippines that was that close to Manila. Depending on where you’re coming from, driving to Clark only takes an hour or two. Maybe three. It depends on the traffic, too, of course – but nothing Waze can’t handle or help you with.
Once we got to Clark, we checked in at our hotel – Holiday Inn Clark – and rested up a bit. We swam, we ate, we drank, we snuggled into the bed covers, and relaxed as much as possible before the festival. Fortunately, there are a lot of different hotels in Clark, so everyone had their pick of where to stay. It helps that we booked our hotel early on, so we didn’t have to worry about not having a place to stay.
Now, to be perfectly honest, I expected a lot of hullabaloo at Global Gateway Logistics City from the parking lot onwards, but that wasn’t the case at all. There were people stationed at every block to tell you where to go, where to pay for parking and where to park, and getting into the venue was pretty easy, too – no long lines or waiting around whatsoever. I guess it helps that 7107 was located at such a huge venue!
And, since it was located at such a huge venue, there was a lot of space to move around and just chill. A lot of people were placing mats on the floor and lying down, making 7107 the ultimate bonding experience. Whenever bands were performing that we weren’t too familiar with, we simply sat down and enjoyed the music while eating, drinking, talking and laughing. If you were far away enough, you didn’t even have to scream just to get the other people around you to understand what were saying. You could even sleep if you wanted to! I did. On the second day. Coz I was tired as hell. :p
Speaking of food, the food at the venue was surprisingly cheap! No joke! I was a bit worried about not being able to bring in outside food and drinks in fear of spending too much without wanting to, but that wasn’t the case. Even Jamba Juice was cheaper on the concert grounds compared to actual Jamba Juice places. While you did have to wait in line a bit to get food and drinks, though, the lines weren’t too crazy. Besides, when standing in line with friends, time flies by pretty quickly.

And can I just state that every band started and ended on time? Thanks to the 7107 app, it was also easy to find out when bands had to change their schedules and swap with other performers. Awesomesauce!
Overall, my only big problem with 7107 was that there were so many people and not a lot of places that you could designate as meeting points. If you didn’t have signal on your phone and if you had bad navigational skills, it would have been practically impossible to find your buddies at the venue. 🙁 Other than that, though, it is safe to say that 7107 was a blast for us When in Manila peeps. 😀
So… Should they have a Part 2? Well, now that they have the success of the first one to speak of, I’d say: definitely!!!
