Tech Geek Challenge: Join Project Devise and Save Lives
The Developers Connect Philippines (DevCon) is inviting college students to take up a challenge: design and develop a way to optimize the use of mobile technology for public safety and disaster preparedness. A reward amounting to P100,000 in cash will go to the top three winning entries.
DevCon is a non-profit organization that aims to promote local IT talent. It is a support group for IT students, educators and professionals to sync, support and succeed in the field of information technology.
Dubbed as “Project Devise”, this national competition focuses on building resiliency in local communities by developing apps or devices that can be used to inform, prevent, or address public safety issues. Motorola Solutions Foundation is DevCon’s funding partner for “Project Devise”.

In a launch held recently in Makati, Motorola Solutions Philippines Managing Director Arnold Joseph Ballesteros highlighted the need of communities to be ready for natural disasters, given the fact that the Philippines is considered as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change.

DevCon President Bryan Bibat emphasized that the students across the country will have local knowledge to identify vulnerabilities in their communities and can help develop the appropriate tools that can build capacity of the people to respond to such occurrences.

The competition is open to all college students nationwide. Entries can be submitted over “Project Devise” portal anytime from June to December. The top 5 finalists will be invited to deliver a pitch of their project in Manila sometime in December. For more information and updates, visit DevCon’s websites as seen below.
