SuZhou (Soo-Chow), commonly known as the Venice of China, is a major city in Eastern China that’s not only known for it’s UNESCO worthy classical gardens but is also known for it’s spicy cuisine. Thankfully for us, we don’t have to book a flight to China to taste the food, because we’ve got a restaurant that’s offering said cuisine at The Fort! To add a cherry on top, not only is the food delicious and budget friendly, but I promise you won’t walk away with a pounding head ache brought upon by MSG that most “authentic” Chinese restos unfortunately use. Shout with me now, HOORAY! So when in Manila, and craving for eastern Chinese cuisine, head on over to SuZhou at The Fort, Bonifacio Global City.

SuZhou is a bit tricky to find as it is tucked away on the second floor of the Crossroads Building with but a simple sign to make passing motorists aware of it, but hey, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! The restaurant is therefore a cozy and quiet setting that may be used for office meetings, family luncheons, dinners and other events that require privacy from the gawking public eye. Pancake with Spring Onions. This is definitely a must-try! My friend and I were served this and gobbled it up before we could even take a decent picture of it (pictured above is our second serving). Light, crisp but not oily, I’d say you’d be happy with your meal eating one Pancake after another, however, that’d be depriving you of the other delicious dishes that they serve!

Special Xiao Long Bao and Pan- Fried Xiao Long Bao. Contrary to popular belief, pan-fried Xiao Long Bao is NOT completely deep-fried like fried wontons or dumplings are, but is instead steamed as it normally is and pan-fried at the bottom quickly to give you a crispy crunch.
