Sungha Jung 2014 Philippine Tour: Catch Sungha Jung Perform Live on August 17!
The Philippines is in for another treat as Korean guitar wunderkind Sungha Jung is prepping to dazzle and enchant his throngs of Filipino fans this August 2014, as he returns to our shores for a third time to grant us a taste of his six-string mastery.
Though Sungha (currently 17 years of age) is still considered to be among the youngest and hippest sensations to emerge from the massively popular K-Pop phenomena, the guitarist – who rose to worldwide acclaim via viral cover versions and mind-blowing instrumental guitar arrangements of popular tunes like Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Maroon 5’s “Payphone,” Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” and jaw-dropping performances of the Super Mario Brothers theme, as well as JerryC’s “Canon Rock,” (a rock arrangement of Johann Pachelbel’s “Canon in D”) – started to seriously play when he was barely 9 years old, after being inspired watching his father play. He received his first official guitar at the same age, and quickly rose to fame via his youtube.com video of him performing the theme to Pirates of the Carribean. Currently, he has over 2.7 million youtube.com subscribers and aside from being tagged with the obvious “guitar prodigy” label, was also dubbed “the August Rush of Korea,” an allusion to a film depicting an archetype that’s close to home: that of a boy genius nursing unnamed heartaches.
Last year, Sungha performed sold-out shows in Cebu and Manila, with tickets running out weeks after the first announcement was made. Performing tracks off his entire discography – 2010’s Perfect Blue, 2011’s Irony, 2012’s The Duets, and the then-newly released 2013’s Paint It Acoustic, much to the rabid delight of his Filipino fans. Both were landmark shows as the guitarist played for more than an hour, even jammed with the local front acts and even offered a special treat during his set with his rendition of the Eraserheads classic “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” and willingly engaged fans with an hour’s worth of meet n’ greet and photo ops. In short, EVERYONE got their fill of Sungha Jung.
So it’s an absolute thrill for people to know that Sungha Jung will be playing Cebu and Manila once more, on August 15 (at the J. Center Mall) and 17 (at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura), respectively.
