Last Wednesday, the local government of Sulu announces that the province will be under community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is to prevent the entry and spread of the virus in the province.

As there have been rising cases of the COVID-19 virus in Malaysia, the Sulu government has decided that it would impose a general community quarantine. This also comes after President Duterte declares a State of Public Health Emergency in the country.

With this, Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan also signs a memorandum regarding a suspension/lockdown on all incoming sea transport/passenger vessels to the province of Sulu. The memorandum also orders the suspension of all classes and activities in all public and private schools in the province.

Mindanao currently has 3 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, with multiple cities and provinces imposing either a lockdown or community quarantine in response.
