Following the controversial death of actress and former f(x) member Sulli, Korean lawmakers are proposing a new bill called the “Sulli Act” in order to curb cyberbullying.

Sulli, whose real name is Choi Jin-ri, was found dead in her home in Seongnam on October 14. According to a police official, “It seems that she took her own life, but we are also looking into other possibilities.”
Many believe that Sulli took her own life due to her longstanding struggle with malicious comments being sent to her online. It is also known that she left f(x) in 2015 due to the abuse she has received.
She was also recently an MC of the show Night of Hate Comments where she read out loud some of the cruel statements that she has received.

Soompi reports that the “Sulli Act” was proposed by nine members of the National Assembly, and is currently being supported by 200 celebrities—many of whom were friends and colleagues of Sulli, or have experienced such abuse themselves.
The report also claims that approximately 100 organizations including the Global Culture & Art Solidarity, Federation of Korean Trade Unions, and the Korean Government Employee’s Union will support the bill.
“Sulli Act” will officially be proposed at the National Assembly’s Memorial Hall on the 49th day of Sulli’s passing which is in early December.
