Critics have been raving about the new addition to the Spider-Verse in “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse”. This groundbreaking fresh take on our favorite web slinger will surely leave you in awe with its stunning visuals and entertaining story that managed to create a succinct exposition of the various versions of Spider-Man from different dimensions without losing grip of the audience.
I love how the storytellers presented the new Spider-Man with the same enthusiasm and excitement as if we’re meeting Spidey for the first time.

6. He was conceptualized on a bike ride
While on his bike after attending a Marvel retreat, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis wondered what would happen if Peter Parker died and gave birth to Miles. Along with artist Sara Pichelli, Brian created the 13-year old young boy, son of an African-American father and Puerto Rican mother. He first appeared in the Spider-Man comics in 2011 and has since then become a fan favorite.
5. Barack Obama is partially responsible for the new Spidey.
Bendis credits three inspirations for this character: (1) the election of former US president Barack Obama; (2) Danny Glover appearing in Spider-Man pajamas in an episode of the TV show “Community,” and (3) the editor-in-chief of Marvel at the time, Axel Alonso (who, like Miles, is biracial with Hispanic blood).
4. Miles has ties with SHIELD.
Miles’ dad Jefferson was a secret agent of SHIELD and wanted to protect the young kid. So, he took Morales, his mother’s last name. Some people thought that Miles used Morales because his parents were not married when he was born, but that’s not the case. And by the time his dad was no longer part of SHIELD, Miles was too old to change his name.
3. His suit is graffiti-inspired.
Unlike the traditional Spidey suit, Miles’ costume reflects his youth and personality. He spraypainted a Spider-Man suit with black and red paint, graffiti-style (graffiti is one of his passions!).
2. He has additional powers – yehey!
This is perhaps one of the most exciting things about the new Spider-Man. Aside from web-shooting, sticking to objects, incredible strength, and an amazing spider sense; Miles can turn invisible and perform Venom strike, an electrical power that he can deliver with a touch.
1. Shameik Moore predicted he would play Spider-Man.
Five years ago, Moore wrote “I am Miles Morales” in his journal because he connected with the character. He still has this journal and mentioned it to the filmmakers during his audition.
“Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” is easily one of this year’s best films.
In fact, as of writing, it has won Best Animation in the LA Film Critics Association. I’ve seen it and I can say that it’s easily one of my top tier Spider-Man movies. It may even be my second favorite Spidey film. Oh, and don’t forget to watch out for the late Stan Lee’s cameo in it!
