After its huge critical and commercial success, and the Oscar it bagged earlier this year, it’s no wonder that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a sequel. Producer Amy Pascal confirmed in a recent interview with io9 that a follow-up movie to Spider-Verse is currently in the works.
The second film, still centered around Miles Morales, was put into development last November, even before Spider-Verse was released. There is also going to be a spin-off that focuses on Spider-Gwen, as well as smaller TV projects, as reported by ComicBook.com.
There is still no news about what Spider-Verse 2 is going to be about, but Pascal hinted that it might involve the budding friendship and romance between Miles and Gwen.
With the multi-verse being canon, there is a lot of possibilities out there for future installments. There could be other spider-people out there! And of course, Spider-Man has no shortage of villains who want to take him down, so we’ll most likely be introduced to a new bad guy, too.
Either way, we’ll keep an eye out for more news about the sequel as production develops.
