When you hear the term ‘boat shoe’, the first brand that probably comes to mind is Sperry. This makes perfect sense since Sperry actually invented the boat shoe back in 1935. Today, however, Sperry isn’t just about the famous boat shoe. In fact, they are reinventing the sneaker this year by adding a modern and fresh new look to the Sperry brand through the Paul Sperry collection.
To launch their latest collections, Sperry hosted a super cool #IamPaulSperry backyard party last July 13, which has since then been dubbed as a ‘Pinterest-dream’ coming to life, generating 220 Instagram posts from celebrities, socialites, and digital influencers.
Taking inspiration from backyard parties in Southern California and rooftop events in New York, Sperry created a fusion between urban and laid-back, turning a private residence in Forbes, Makati into an Instagram-worthy setup.

Personalities seen at the event were Axel Torres, Patrick Sugui, Kyle Vergara, Iñigo Pascual, Louise delos Reyes, Sam Concepcion, Loisa Andalio, Maris Racal, Kelly Day, and Richard Juan. Society influencers such as Jolo Estrada, Almira Teng, Quark Henares, Shamee Sugui, Miguel Avanceña, Denisse Oca, Kally Araneta, and ABS-CBN Publishing’s CEO, Ernie Lopez came for a good time, as well. In 1935, founder Paul Sperry created CVO or Canvas Vulcanized Oxford, the world’s first sea-based sneaker chosen as the official Deck Shoe of the Navy’s Amphibian Corps. The sneaker was selected for its sure-footedness which is essential to officers and crew.
For 2016, the brand introduces its latest lineup – a collection born with Sperry’s sneaker heritage. The line includes the men’s and women’s Bahama 2-Eye, Striper CVO in washable nubuck leather, and the women’s Seacoast.
