After Sonic the Hedgehog surprisingly managed to steal our hearts earlier this year, we found ourselves hoping to see the beloved character race to theaters once again with a sequel.
And now, it’s official: Sonic the Hedgehog is coming back with a new film!
According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has given the green light to the sequel which will be helmed by the original team, director Jeff Fowler and scriptwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
Not much has been revealed about what Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be about, but if the mid-credits scene from the first movie was any indication, it seems that we will see the return of Sonic’s nemesis, Doctor Eggman, who was left in exile in a strange world.
Not only that, but a second mid-credits scene hinted that a new character will definitely be introduced—Sonic’s best friend and sidekick, Miles “Tails” Prower!
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing public health crisis, it’s unclear when production for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will begin and when we can anticipate its theatrical release. At least we can rest easy knowing that a sequel is surely coming; we’ll just have to wait a while for it.

The first film starred Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden as Sherriff Tom Wachowski, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman.
