Song Kang and Kim So-hyun Share Their Thoughts on Unrequited Love

Before ‘Love Alarm’ Season 2 was released, we were able to attend a press con and even interview the cast via Zoom. We tried our best to pick the brains of Song Kang and Kim So-hyun to find out their thoughts on unrequited love and whether they would like to have a Love Alarm exist in real life.

In ‘Love Alarm’, Jojo (played by Kim So-hyun) is torn between two guys who are in love with her: Hwang Sun-oh (played by Song Kang) and Lee Hye-yeong (played by Jung Ga-ram). However, while Jojo’s love alarm rings whenever both of the guys come closer, she never sets off their love alarms. This is largely because of a Shield that she had previously installed to hide her feelings, but the guys are unaware of this. “Honestly, it doesn’t really matter if your alarm is ringing if the person you love doesn’t ring your alarm,” Kim So-hyun says.

“When you have feelings for someone, they’re not always reciprocated”,” Song Kang points out. “Unrequited love can be sad, and the series really gave me something to think about.”

Because of this, it really isn’t surprising that both actors said they would prefer not to download a Love Alarm app should it actually exist in real life. “Even if the alarm were real, I think I would prefer to express my feelings in my own words than through the app,” Kim So-hyun states. Song Kang agrees, “While the app is convenient in that you don’t have to express your feelings, delivering your feelings in your own words is still more important.” Kim So-hyun also reminds us that feelings don’t remain the same and may change over time.

She also shares that there have been a lot of moments where she wanted to hide her feelings and while she is good at it sometimes, she is also bad at it other times. She opens up, “When I’m having a hard time, I try to hide it because I don’t want people to worry about it. During those times, I’d love a Shield.”

For those who are confused between two people, Kim So-hyun also shares some advice. “I think that’s the trickiest and most difficult situation,” she states. “There’s not really much you can do about the situation. the best that you can do is be honest and true to your feelings so that the least people will get hurt.”
