Slappy Cakes: Breakfast at its Best!Â
When in Manila, everyone is fast paced. You get to see how the city never gets tired. Despite all the hustle and bustle, though, Metro Manila loves its breakfast food.
Last Sunday, after participating in a fun run held in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig; all the running and getting physical made me so hungry I’m almost getting into character of a beast, I feel like I can eat a whole cow. All tired and famished, a friend of mine suggested this breakfast place called Slappy Cakes.Â
Slappy Cakes is a popular breakfast spot originated from Portland, Oregon, USA, quickly made its name here in Manila due to the different set of scrumptious meals it promises you, hitting those taste buds, right on the spot. Â It is definitely the newest addition to the line of the best breakfast places here in the metro.Â
Having a wide array of delectable dishes, from waffles to pancakes to ulam + silog choices, you know you are never gonna skip breakfast again. This tasty goodness is just too mouthwatering to miss out on.Â
Two of my friends ordered the Pork Belly Benedict and boy, it was the ultimate tummy breaker! What you get on your plate for this one are pork belly and cider coleslaw topped with 2 eggs and creamy hollandaise. Whoever thought of the idea of combining the well-seasoned savor of the pork belly meat and the rich creamy flavor, is a freaking genius!
Something unique about this place is that you get to create your own pancakes just the way you like it. They will basically hand you an 8 oz bottle where you simply squeeze the batter onto the heated griddle and pretend like you are painting your own pancakes into whatever figure you wish. We had the maple syrup and Cream Cheese to top it all off.
Our own choice of pancake, Red Velvet, absolutely brought me to heaven. It’s creamy taste perfectly combined with the twist of sweetness, taking red velvet cupcake into context. It’s luscious flavor deliberately tickled my taste buds all through out the meal. By the way, the original Five (5) pancake batters are: Peanut Butter, Whole Grain, Chocolate, Classic Buttermilk and Vegan.
Now, if you want to know why this marvelous place is called Slappy Cakes, it’s because of the sound made when the pancakes are “slapped” or turned onto its other side. Guess sometimes, the obvious isn’t that obvious after all, huh?
Summing it all up, after the glorious experience we had, I could barely move and it felt like I was going into  food coma. My tummy was super satisfied and it definitely gave me and my friends a unique dining experience that needs to be repeated. I, Gienah, solemnly swear, that this place is A.WE.S.OM.E you guys and you need to try this when in Manila!!
