‘Shang-Chi’ Star Simu Liu Tweeted Marvel to Cast Him in The Film…and They Did!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the movies that Marvel Studios announced during their panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. Along with this announcement came a cast reveal. Tony Leung will be appearing as the Mandarin (the real one!) and Awkwafina will star in a yet to be announced role. Meanwhile, the titular character will be played by Canadian actor Simu Liu who is best known for his role in the sitcom Kim’s Convenience.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared with the audience at Hall H that Simu was just recently cast as Shang-Chi. In fact, the actor found out about his new role just the week before the panel.

With the spotlight on him, fans discovered that Simu actually sent Marvel a tweet about seven months ago asking for Shang-Chi.

Just last month, he tweeted again after it was announced that the studio was looking for an Asian actor to star in Doctor Strange. He still didn’t know he was going to be Shang-Chi at this point.

It all came full circle during the panel when he was officially announced as Shang-Chi.

Fans are now sharing jokes about how tweeting your prospective employer could land you a job and, tbh, you really won’t have anything to lose. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to start @-ing Marvel too. Who knows?
