Currently, 15 candidates are in the running to become the very first Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City. Upon the announcement of hopefuls, however, one specific contender stood out.

According to a social media post by the organization, a 69-year-old fashion designer is among the MUPHQC candidates who are vying for a spot in the national finals! Jocelyn Cubales hopes to represent Quezon City at Miss Universe Philippines 2024, as she “believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit.”
Why did 69-year-old Jocelyn Cubales join Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City? The MUPHQC contestant’s husband Marc Cubales revealed her reason for joining the pageant at her age in a Facebook post: “to inspire other Filipino women to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams.”
In any case, Marc added that “it is not about age anymore, it is a pageant and competition where I think everyone who is entitled and deserving should be part of this prestigious pageant.”
Moreover, he claimed that the 69-year-old MUPHQC candidate is “a woman with honor and dignity who can represent our country well.” In fact, this is not her first pageant.
The senior beauty queen represented South Asia and became the first Filipina to compete in the 2017 Mrs. Universe, earning the ‘Mother of the Universe’ award for her advocacy. Furthermore, Jocelyn Cubales was named Mrs. Philippines Germany in 2000 and held the titles Mrs. Asia International, Mrs. Asia International Global, and Mrs. Ecotourism in 2014.
Effective this year, the Miss Universe Organization has implemented the removal of age restrictions across all Miss Universe and associated pageants. This change aligns with other progressive measures mandated by the international pageant, embracing the inclusion of transgender women, divorced women, wives, and mothers.
The MUPHQC coronation night happens on February 5, 2024.
