For a couple of weeks now, I have been in a rut with my Facebook account. It happens. It’s those introvert days when I just feel that being on Facebook drains my energy. Then, most often than not, something pops up on my news feed and I get reminded why I still keep my account.

Recently, my friend posted about making a wrong turn on her way home. As a result, she ended up discovering a new building along Katipunan Avenue filling up with tenants. One of those tenants is a coffee shop. She said she saw the sign, was enticed by the warm lights from inside, and decided to go in. It was a choice she did not regret. It’s one of those days when you know you missed a turn for a reason. She raved about the affordable coffee and the good ambiance.

 

 

See, those are the kinds of posts that remind me why I am still on Facebook. If not to stay in touch with loved ones, I get to discover new things to try out or places to visit.

So, when one of my good friends asked to meet up (He was stuck in some sort of rut, as well, but the social media kind), I found it to be the perfect opportunity to go to the coffee shop, Roast in Katipunan.

I thought Roast would have a bigger space, but I was surprised to find that it was a small, cozy space. It’s okay because outside, along the balcony of the building, they also had bigger tables lined up. When we got there, there was a group of men having beer while watching the basketball game on the television inside the cafe.

 

 

Overall, Roast has a warm vibe, just like my friend described. There is a wall that shows the different ways of making coffee, lights strewn on the ceiling, and quirky signs with random sayings on them. It is nice, a perfect place to hang out, talk and just have good coffee.

 

 

Our order was good. I personally enjoyed my pasta. I thought it was just the right amount of serving. That’s why I had space for a pot of hot tablea chocolate. My boyfriend and friend were satisfied with their orders, as well.

We’re happy that the Katipunan food scene continues to grow. Roast is not far from our other favorite restaurant, Bawais.

We will definitely come back to Roast to try out the other things on their menu. On our way out, we noticed that they take pride in their puto bumbong and bibingka (which is my favorite Filipino dessert). No wonder the puto bumbong that my boyfriend ordered look so good! (I was too full to try it out). They have a booth located at the ground floor near the parking space specifically for taking orders of these specialties.
