Veteran entertainment writer, Ricky Lo, has released a statement in reaction to James Reid and Nadine Lustre’s breakup which the two have finally confirmed on Tonight With Boy Abunda.
The Philippine Star columnist has been the subject of criticism ever since he affirmed JaDine’s split, initially reported on PEP.ph. In Nadine’s words, he had used her “mental situation/tragic past just to prove a point” and claims none of what he said was true.
Now that the two have admitted to their breakup, Ricky Lo likewise broke his silence.
“I should thank James Reid and Nadine Lustre for confirming in a joint statement that they have broken up, exactly two weeks after I broke the story in my STAR [column]. That is, after Nadine denied it with impunity,” he began.
“I kept my cool and just said, ‘Just wait and see’ even when Nadine (while James remained silent) lambasted me for being a liar (purveyor of fake news) and thus emboldening her fans to [relentlessly] doing [the same] on social media. As The STAR blurb says, ‘The truth shall prevail.'”
He added that he always “stands for the truth” as a journalist and assured everyone that he only writes stories from “reliable sources.”
“In any case, whether showbiz or elsewhere, honesty is the best policy,” he said.
He ended his statement by using the same line Nadine told him: “O, Nadine, ano na? 2020 na!!!”

James and Nadine started working together way back in 2013, starring in a few projects including Diary ng Panget and On the Wings of Love, before they eventually became a real-life couple. It was in February 2016 during their JaDine in Love concert when James admitted that he loved Nadine.
According to them, their breakup was due to them deciding to focus on themselves not only for their careers but more for their personal growth. “We agreed that going separate ways was best for both of us,” they said. They added that they are in good terms and are “still really good friends.”
