R2R Living Brings Sustainable Furniture Design into Our Homes
What comes into your mind when you hear the word “sustainability”? Coming from the root word “sustain” meaning to prolong or maintain, my take on this is that it’s all about preserving the environment and considering that what we use or wear impacts the way that we live.
Rags2Riches, one of the country’s top for-profit social enterprise recently launched its R2R Living collection in partnership with SoFA Design Institute in order to bring sustainable furniture design into our own homes.
It was an interesting talk with Ms. Reese Fernandez-Ruiz and Arch. Toby Guggenheimer inspiring and teaching advocates about how to create our dream spaces while thinking in the long term not only for ourselves and our families, but also for the world we live in.

With the Rags2Riches fashion line, they have partnered with designers like Ms Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Rajo Laurel. I have seen their classy bags online at ZALORA and plan to buy one of their quirky clutches. For R2R Living’s furniture design, they have collaborated with the very talented French-Filipino designer Olivia d’ Aboville.
The R2R furniture collection includes beautiful, thickly woven poufs and area rugs in vibrant colors. They also have pillows in unique designs – some laced with gold accents and others infused with indegenious fabrics.
I am very fascinated with the style names of these pillows and poufs.
Pillows such as SUMAN, PLAZA, RAMA, and ROTO. Floor poufs called PUTO and area rugs named SAPIN-SAPIN. Each product was made by talented artisans from all over the Philippines – from the densely populated communities of the capital to the mountain range tribes of the South. R2R is a life and livelihood partner for these empowered and dignified artisans as they strive to weave better futures for their families and communities.
