The Philippines, indeed, is on a climacteric phase of significant changes and major ups and downs that would engender necessary impacts on the lives of the actors of the Philippine economy, be it in a short run or long-run. The good thing, concurrent with this myriad of socio-economic issues and setbacks, is the glowing fire to light up the Filipino people’s financial and economic involvedness, and capability and knowledge. These are primarily directed towards achieving an inclusive progress, as explicitly stated in our AmbisyonNatin 2040.
In line with the yearly celebration of the Philippine Economic and Financial Literacy Week, the PUP Department of Economics and the Economics Research Society will hold the Polytechnic University of the Philippines first ever Economic and Financial Literacy Forum titled “An Economy in Transition: Developing Resiliency from Repercussions” on November 10, 2018, 11:30 am to 7:00 pm. The event is open toall the PUP students and non-PUPians who are interested to participate.
The event will be held at 4F Bulwagang Balagtas Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center (NALLRC), Polytechnic University of the Philippines, A. Mabini Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila. It primarily aims to orient the participants about the current status of the Philippine Economy, promote the importance of economic and financial literacy, inspire the participants to be socially aware and involved, and address issues and concerns regarding the said topic.
“Our government puts a premium on economic and financial literacy among Filipinos.
We want more people to learn how the economy works and how they could manage their personal finances,” Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M.
Pernia said. National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) is mandated by the Republic Act 10922 or “An Act Declaring the Second Week of November Every Year as Economic and Financial Literacy Week,” to spearhead in the nationwide observance of the Economic and Financial Literacy Week, together with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Finance (DOF) and Department of Budget and Management.
“Let me reiterate that economic and financial literacy is an important investment in the nation’s human capital. With that, we encourage everyone to participate in the celebration and help the government to cascade the information, most especially our friends in the media, by joining the online campaign with the hashtags “PhilSysEFLW2018” and “AmBisyonNatin2040,” Pernia encouraged during the 8th #AskNEDA Media Briefing.
