POEA Requires OFW Helpers To Own Facebook Accounts

Undoubtedly the most popular social network, the government now wants a piece of the action with Facebook!

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is now requiring Filipino domestic workers abroad to have Facebook accounts, according to a report by the Philippine Star.

Apparently, this is so POEA can better monitor the working conditions of OFW helpers, and to improve communication platforms between the government, recruitment agencies and the workers.

This also means that POEA is requiring all recruitment agencies to have Facebook accounts and share these with their deployed OFWs.

According to the agency, having Facebook accounts can also be used to monitor compliance of recruitment agencies, and manage disputes between recruitment agencies and OFWs.

What do you guys think of this? Do you think this is effective?
