Are you excited for PLDT’s Last Home Stand this week? Well, you’d better be. Whether you’re a true-blue NBA fanatic or not, we are here to give you a little bit of the basics on each NBA player that is currently in Manila to play against Smart Gilas Pilipinas – something that is sure to make the crowds go wild at Araneta Coliseum! (Written with the help of Josue Faustino.)
Paul George
Who can forget Paul George taking Lebron James to Game 7 in 2013’s Eastern Conference Finals? Currently the best player on the Indiana Pacers team, this entrance into superstar status proved that George definitely has the potential to become an even better talent in the NBA in the coming years.
James Harden
James Harden is widely known in the world of basketball for the catchphrase ‘Fear the Beard’. A left-handed sharpshooter who can drive to the basket; he is one of the best, if not the best, when it comes to using the Eurostep against helpless defenders.
Tyson Chandler
A veteran of the USA team, Tyson Chandler’s leadership helped the US win its second straight Olympic gold medal, which is why Team USA simply cannot afford to lose him. In fact, he is the only player who could stand up against the Twin Towers of Spain, the Gasol Brothers.
Terrence Ross
Terrence Ross might not be the biggest name on the list, but he is an exceptional athlete and is one of the bright young stars of the NBA. He actually won the title of Sprite Slam Dunk Champion in 2013. Just check out this unbelievable dunk that he did against the Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried:
Ed Davis
Ed Davis made his NBA debut in 2010 against the Washington Wizards with 2 blocks, 11 points and 6 rebounds. In 2011, he made his career high against the New York Knicks with 22 points.
Brandon Jennings
Another leftie sharp-shooter, Brandon Jennings scored a whopping 55 points during his rookie year in the NBA back in 2009. Unbelievable!

Aside from Blake Griffin’s much-improved skill set, let’s let the highlights do the talking…

Damian Lillard is in the new breed of point guards and has dazzled in the NBA for the past decade. The point guard position has changed over the past years, thanks to the likes of Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, and Kyrie Irving, to name a few. Lillard is not only athletic; he delivers in the clutch, too.
DeMar DeRozan
Rising star of the Toronto Raptors, DeMar DeRozan was first known as a one-dimensional player who merely drove to the basket with reckless abandon. Now, his game involves good shot selections and he also shoots at a decent percentage. Aside from that, DeRozan has helped the Toronto Raptors get to their first playoff appearance since Vince Carter’s days with the Raptors.
Nick Johnson
Pac-12 Player of the Year Nick Johnson helped the Arizona Wildcats rise within the past 3 years, thanks to his athleticism, alertness, speed and versatility. One of the smartest players in the 2014 draft, Johnson looks to become a great combo guard and shooting guard.
Kyle Lowry
Another rising talent from the Toronto Raptors, Kyle Lowry always makes driving to the basket and finishing amongst the trees look easy despite his height. Kyle Lowry made his name by helping his fellow star DeMar DeRozan during the recent run in the playoffs.
Kawhi Leonard
Also known as The Claw with his gifted hands, which can easily grip a basketball as if it were a mere apple. Playing with the Spurs under Greg Popovic’s guidance has helped his game reach a whole new level by winning the 2014 Finals MVP. Originally a defensive specialist, he has learned how to be mature and pick his shots and be an important piece in their epic championship run earlier this year. A young star full of potential that now has the opportunity of being the next face of the ever successful San Antonio Spurs.
