Almost 400 participants all over Asia are set to gather in Manila on 12-14 April 2015 for the second installment of the Philippine Debate Open. The tournament is in Asians Parliamentary Format with almost eighty (80) teams competing for the championship.

Hosted by the San Beda Debate Society, the tournament is definitely one of kind, featuring six rounds in the preliminaries and four rounds in the final series, all of which will be held in the Manila Campus of San Beda College. San Beda has hosted numerous tournaments before including the coveted hosting of the National Debating Championship not only once, but twice. As an international tournament it is set to prepare debaters for the Asian Championship which will be held in Bali, Indonesia on June 2015 making it an attractive tournament for debaters all over Asia to warm up for Bali 2015.

This year’s theme is #WeCouldBe, a testament to the tournament’s thrust of making every participant’s goals and ambitions during the course of the competition a reality. As an Open tournament it will feature debaters from high school and collegiate level, including graduate students and professionals as well vying for the championship.

The quality of adjudication is primordial to the organizing committee. It invited Allan Cabrera of Ateneo de Manila, Carlos Borromeo of University of the Philippines Diliman, Charles de Belen of San Beda College and Maizura Mokhsein of University Teknologi Mara, who will fly all the way from Malaysia to help in beefing up the quality of adjudication that the tournament can offer.

The tournament also features social events for the participant to broaden their horizon and at the same time expand participants’ networks such as the Break Night Party after the preliminaries and the Championship Night as part of the tournament’s culminating event.
