F’s in the chat please: Pewdiepie finally loses to T-Series

After a months-long battle against Indian YouTube channel T-Series, Pewdiepie finally loses his place as YouTube’s most subscribed to channel. Can we have F’s in the chat please, 9-year-old army?

Pewdiepie

The Pewdiepie VS T-Series battle began in August 2018 when the Bollywood channel seemed to have appeared out of nowhere rapidly gaining subscribers and slowly catching up to Pewdiepie’s sub count. For a painfully long while, the two have been neck-and-neck, prompting many fans and friends of Pewdiepie to gather as many subscribers as they can in a number of creative, bordering on crazy ways to keep Pewdiepie in the lead.

Creators like Mr. Beast bought billboards in his hometown asking people to subscribe to Pewdiepie, while Justin Roberts of Logan Paul’s Team 10 bought ad space in Times Square New York asking the same thing. Plenty of others just went around their own cities to personally ask strangers to subscribe to his channel. Some even went as far as hacking printers and Smart TVs!

Pewdiepie himself released a diss track against T-Series titled “Bitch Lasagna” and played a variety of games he never would have like Fortnite and Minecraft. “Subscribe to Pewdiepie” became a popular and, much recently, controversial meme. And for more than half a year, it was worth it.

By the last week of March, T-Series had finally passed Pewdiepie with a subgap of a hundred thousand, ending the battle with a loss for the 9-year-old army.

As an official response, Pewdiepie released another music video titled “Congratulations” (which he recorded months ago to prepare for his eventual loss) where he seemingly congratulates T-Series for succeeding as YouTube’s new number one, but actually sings about the corporation’s multiple wrongdoings like selling pirated songs and having had “collusions with the mafia.”

He ends his song with a heartfelt note addressed to his followers, thanking them for sticking with his channel through the years, the changes, and the controversies. “So this is it, thanks for sticking with my channel ever since I was a nobody, screaming at barrels. Yeah, this is it, it’s been an adventure. It’s the end of the reign of Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg. Through all the change and controversy, you’ve been by my side. There’s no army in the world I would rather give me watch time.”

As a symbol of his deep gratitude, Pwediepie offered a much-coveted brofist for all his loyal subscribers. “It’s been a wild ride, so while I can still be heard, here’s one last brofist from the number one in the world.”
