Back in 2015, Performance Lab started its practice of putting together unique multidisciplinary programs and productions. This will be continued and advanced in this summer’s Devised Theatre Workshop. “Devising” is a process wherein the script is written based on improvised collaborations by both cast and crew. This results in a narrative work born out of various impulses and dispositions as opposed to the traditional script-to-stage standard. This dynamic is designed to reinforce performers’ skillsets by directly involving them in the most intimate and productive fusion of improvising and writing.
In order to shape the participants’ creative impulses, Industry professionals from Repertory Philippines, Silly People’s Improv Theatre, Daloy Dance Company, Metta Assumption Theatre, and ABS-CBN’s Star Magic will facilitate the following classes: Viewpoints, Creative Movement, Contact Improvisation, Improv Theatre, Long Form Improv, and Writing.Due to the collaborative nature of the program, both beginners and experienced actors are encouraged to enroll.
The original work that the participants device through the classes shall be staged by Performance Lab after the workshops. The program structure grants you access to actor’s folio upgrades. You will emerge from this workshop not only with substantial training, but also with new headshots, production credits as both actor and writer, and performances’ video documentation. You can add these to your actor’s reel and portfolio. There will also be a special lecture on industry essentials by Star Magic’s Miel Abong to help you navigate your way better in the world of performing arts. All these classes, features and the production will cost a total of Php 8,000. A special price of Php 7,000 will apply to PWDs, Senior Citizens and Early Birds (those who will complete registration on or before May 8, 2017).
Devised theater entails development in different performance disciplines. Thus, your participation in all classes is highly encouraged. If you are not able to attend the entire program, you can still avail of the Improv Theatre pass wherein you’ll have access to all Improv classes (Contact Improv, Improv Theatre, and Long form Improv) for only Php 3,500. This pass does not include headshots photography but you will still receive a certificate.
