What a CATastrophe!
On Sunday of October 11, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) reported that two robbers broke into the shelter and catnapped two purebred cats.
According to the Facebook post by PAWS, one of the robbers was caught on PAWS’ CCTV camera cutting through the wire fence. He walked over to the padlocked cattery where the purebred cats were kept. After breaking the lock, the two cats were taken. He then handed one of the cages to his accomplice, who was waiting by the entrance. When the deed was done, the two suspects fled on foot with an orange wheelbarrow that they also stole from PAWS.

The incident took place between 2:30 to 3 PM that afternoon. The stolen cats include a grey British Shorthair and a light brown Scottish Fold. Both cats were “observed to have respiratory ailments and signs of dehydration from the extreme stress of having been kept too long in small carriers at a warehouse for general cargo.”

Import Mishap Turned Kidnapping
Aside from these cats, 24 other animals were rescued on October 10. They all had arrival dates ranging from September 1 to September 29 but were left in the warehouse because the importer failed to comply with BAI Administrative Order Number 9, which protects the country from the entry of animal-borne diseases.
“These cats were already in the initial stages of treatment when they were stolen,” said PAWS shelter veterinarian Eizel Ladores. “We appeal to those who may have unknowingly bought these stolen cats to please present any newly-purchased pets that match the above descriptions to PAWS.”
“They are micro-chipped and can easily be identified, but more importantly, we need to continue the treatment of the illnesses they acquired from the stress of importation,” she added.
