Oscars 2021 postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic

One of the biggest nights in Hollywood has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected the movie industry, causing many productions to halt.

The 2021 Oscars has been postponed for two months to April 25. This is after concerns about a field consisting of only films released in 2020 will not be as competitive. The eligibility cutoff date for movies has also been extended to February 28.

The Academy Oscar Awards

In a statement, Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said, “Or hope, in extending the eligibility period and our Awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone’s control.”

Last April, the Academy also changed some significant rules in the awards show to adjust to the effect of the pandemic. The 2021 Oscars was originally scheduled for February 28, 2021.
