It’s the -ber months again, so we had better start coming up with gift ideas as early as now for a head start on the holiday gift-shopping frenzy close to December. Old gift ideas are so tired, old and generic, though. Do you really want to give or receive another T-shirt, mug or notebook? For some time, I have been thinking that personalized gifts are rather beautiful and memorable. Unfortunately, they can be quite expensive, too. Thank goodness that in my years with a bookish community, I have come across some amazing artists who have the ability to transform the mundane into something glorious. I’d like to list 3 examples here. I cannot promise that they will be able to accommodate all orders, though. The beauty and downside of “personalized” is that the makers take time to get to know the person making the job order so they can tap into his or her uniqueness, and somehow render it into a real work of art.

Homemaker, artist, and children’s book author Ajie packs a ton of talent and wicked humor within a diminutive frame and self-deprecating demeanor. She is very meticulous and very OC about details. Experience her loving attention to details in her arts and crafts. These days she enjoys drawing life stories on plain canvas shoes. The examples here are of the one she did as wedding gift for It’s a Mens World author Bebang Siy and poet Robert Verzo (Lita: Poems on Women). She also upcycle bits and pieces of paper into gorgeous notebooks.
