LOOK: Gamer Builds Nintendo Switch for Friend Using Spare Parts

With everyone staying at home amid a public health crisis, people are now clinging onto games to help them pass the time. Unfortunately for some, it’s become difficult to order a gaming console from the internet and expect it to arrive within days with the city-wide lockdowns in place.

This is why this netizen decided to build one on his own.

Imgur user Sarbaaz37 shared how they were able to build a Nintendo Switch at their own at home. They sourced all the parts from websites, Internet auctions, online re-sellers, and manufacturers, most of which cost under USD 10 (approximately PHP 500) each. The only part that made up a huge bulk of the total cost of the rebuild was the working OEM Nintendo Switch replacement logic board which cost USD 95 (around PHP4.8K).

The whole process took Sarbaaz37 over a month and the end result was a success.

Sure, the whole build cost Sarbaaz37 nearly USD 199 (PHP 10K) which is approximately the price of a brand new Nintendo Switch Lite, but it’s cool to know that it is possible to build your own console from scratch.

The reason too behind this Imgur user’s decision to DIY the Switch is quite noble. On Reddit, they shared: “I know many people have commented on time is money and a few hundred isn’t much. But the truth is my friend who this is for was laid off due to the virus and aren’t sure when their savings will dry up. It seems like a luxury to own a gaming console in that financial bind but with only a Netflix account it seems like a good mental health device while sheltering in place.”

And that’s what makes it worth it, don’t you agree?
