Six days after Glee star Naya Rivera went missing, her body has been found.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, a body was found floating northeast area of the lake. It was identified as Rivera. She was 33 years old.
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said, “We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera,” and added, “there is no indication of foul play or that this was a suicide.”
She and her four year old son Josey went to Lake Piru last Wednesday and rented a boat. Reports say that Josey was found alone, sleeping. Later on, he said that he and his mother went swimming, but that she was not able to get back on the boat. Josey told investigators that he saw her disappear under the water.
A search party was quickly organized, with over a hundred divers, searchers, and law enforcement agents participating. However, they had been unsuccessful because of poor visibility in the water. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said that divers could only see up to two feet underwater, and that there was plenty of debris and vegetation. Side-scanning sonar devices were used to aid the search.
Ayub said, “There are a lot of currents on the lake that appear typically in the afternoon. We believe it was mid-afternoon when she disappeared, the idea being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself.”

Rivera’s body was found on the 7th death anniversary of her Glee castmate, Cory Monteith. Her Glee castmates gathered at Lake Piru after the police announced a body was found. They were seen holding hands an hour before it was confirmed to be Rivera.
