Black Widow Set Photos Reveal Possible Villain, Prequel Theory Weakens

For a movie that hasn’t even been confirmed yet, Black Widow is catching a lot of attention especially since it started production in May. There are so many theories surrounding the film but the biggest one right now is that it’s supposedly a prequel, following Natasha Romanoff’s life before she was part of SHIELD and the Avengers.

However, set photos from this week’s filming feature Natasha driving a modern car, specifically a 2017 BMW. Fans who have been watching the production closely have been trying to figure out the timeline for ages. Some say this means a large part of the movie could be set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. While set in ‘modern times’, technically, anything set before Avengers: Endgame would still qualify as a prequel. This would just mean that they’re not going back that far, at least not entirely.

Meanwhile, during the same week, fans got to see someone who appears to be Taskmaster on the set of the film. If that doesn’t confirm that he’s a villain in Natasha’s movie, I don’t know what will.

Taskmaster, in the comics, has the ability to mimic the skills and abilities of his adversaries. Since the Black Widow is a highly trained assassin who excels in hand-to-hand combat, we can probably expect a lot of interesting action sequences from the two.

Again, none of this has been confirmed yet (including the movie itself), but Black Widow is shaping up to be a pretty interesting film so far. David Harbour, who has joined the cast in an unannounced role, recently told ComicBook.com that the Black Widow film is “unlike anything he’s ever done before” and praised director Cate Shortland, so the future definitely looks promising.
