Japanese artist behind ‘Momo’ statue has destroyed it: “Momo is dead”

The so-called “Momo challenge” can finally be put to rest. While most of us have known it to be a hoax for quite some time, this can at least put some closure on the whole issue. Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso, the creator of ‘Momo’, assures everyone that the Momo statue has actually been destroyed for some years now.

He shares with The Sun that he got rid of the statue after it underwent degradation:

It doesn’t exist anymore, it was never meant to last. It was rotten and I threw it away. The children can be reassured Momo is dead – she doesn’t exist and the curse is gone.

Sadly, Aiso has actually been recieving hate mail for something entirely out of his control. He has no idea how the momo challenge came to be or who even created it in the first place. He even puts blame on himself for creating panic and fear, especially for the children. He says: “I have a small child myself so I can understand how parents are concerned.”

He requests: “While I’m glad that my work is being known around the globe, I’d like to ask whoever is behind the phenomenon to be more discreet in using the image.” This is especially disappointing since the Momo statue had previously been a work he was proud of.
