Mocha Uson Blog Unavailable on Facebook: Is It Really “Over”?

So. Many. Questions.

Mocha Uson and Vico Sotto

Mocha Uson is a lot of things. Prior to becoming the Deputy Executive Director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), she is a dancer and a model. On social media, she is a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte. Her Facebook page “Mocha Uson Blog” has been a channel to post appreciation for the administration.

Mocha Uson Blog was an outlet for sharing updates about the president’s achievements and retaliating against “haters” of the current administration. Her vocal approach earned her the nickname “Queen of Fake News” with Senator Nancy Binay questioning her credibility during a hearing about Fake News.

However, just this Friday night of March 20, the Mocha Uson Blog was suddenly unavailable.

So what may have caused it? Let’s take a look at what happened.

Twitter Movement #MochaUsonIsOverParty

Before the page’s disappearance, there was a movement on Twitter to take it down. The hashtag #MochaUsonIsOverParty trended in the Philippines with users even posting screenshots on how to report her page on Facebook. The reason to use? Hate speech.

This was brought about when a post by Banat By was shared on the Mocha Uson Blog. It criticized Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto’s request to allow tricycles to operate on a limited capacity during the ongoing Enhanced Community Quarantine, which was eventually rejected by the government. They reasoned that it put passengers at risk of catching the Novel Coronavirus.

Twitter and Facebook users who posted about Uson and her Facebook page also used the hashtag “#ProtectVico”, which could mean that their reason for reporting the page was because of the mayor.

Mocha Uson Blog: Unavailable

Before the page became unavailable, the Mocha Uson Blog had around 5.9 million followers and 5.8 million likes. And on Friday night of March 20, the Mocha Uson blog was suddenly unavailable. Currently, netizens are unsure whether the disappearance of the page was because Facebook took it down, or if Uson herself deactivated the page.

Mocha Uson’s Statement

Despite the Mocha Uson Blog being unavailable on Facebook, its twitter equivalent @mochauson remains active. Just recently, she explained her side, saying that the page is composed of different bloggers and admins. According to Uson, their viewpoints vary and stresses that “saying I am against Vico Sotto is fake news since it was posted by another admin”— being Banat By.
