Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago Reveals Having Stage 4 Lung Cancer
It was only yesterday when I published an article about her suggesting that only tax payers should be allowed to vote and now, I personally could not believe that news about her having stage 4 lung cancer is going viral. =(
According to reports, one of the country’s most loved and respected senators, Miriam Defensor Santiago announced today that she has stage 4 lung cancer. =(
Doctors found a “genetic mutation” in her left lung after she complained of shortness of breath. News said, she will not undergo chemotherapy but will instead take “one tablet a day” to fight the disease. Good thing however, her doctors assured her she can still work. She said her doctors don’t know how she acquired the disease.
Doctors expect the cancer to degenerate after six months with the treatment, but if it doesn’t, she said she might have to go to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for a more extensive treatment.
During the press conference, the senator even joked about her condition during her announcement..
“My enemies may be happy, they can get rid of me. But I can survive. I came here to be able to kiss you, shake your hands. If I’m not able to do that, I can kiss you when I’m dead.” – Miriam Santiago
