In response to the many inquiries we get, asking us about our recommended budget-friendly hotels around Manila, we thought it would be a great idea to feature kick-ass 3 star hotels this time. I personally accepted this new challenge to be more credible with our future recommendations and because I know by doing so, I’ll get to meet new friends. =)

Whenever I need to book in a hotel, I always check the listings over at Agoda.com as they have been so reliable specially with those last minute booking moments. I also get to save a lot as they offer the lowest online rates. I have already stayed in quite a number of budget hotels and I believe I have stayed in the worst! lols! Seriously! I remember feeling as if I was hosting Hotel Hell Philippine edition! I won’t reveal which hotel it is though. hihihihi

Anyway, in our quest to pick the best budget hotels in the metro, I had to get all the info I need as this would be very different from the luxury hotels which we featured before. For me to learn further, I’ve decided to experience how it is to stay in a Microtel Hotel. Microtel by Wyndham is a famous and respected name when it comes to budget hotels. I’ve heard so many good things about them specially in terms of service and affordability.

Last weekend,  I felt I needed some time-off and quality “me time.” I was convinced that it was time once again for another impromptu staycation so I’ve decided to head down south, away from far far away Farview to clear my head a bit and listen to what the waves would tell me  as I witness another lovely sunset over Manila Bay.

But before that, I settled my stuff first at Microtel by Wyndham which was only a few steps away by the bay and Mall of Asia.

Before checking-in, I conditioned my mind, not to have any expectations whatsoever, since I knew this was in a different classification. I honestly believe that every traveler should be educated with hotel standards as most people usually demand too much from budget hotels.

Anyway, when I arrived, the atmosphere was pretty nice. There were quite a lot of security guards at the entrance which made me feel safe however, I hope they would smile a little bit more specially when guests enter. The 60-second rule is very important as 1st impressions last. The people at the Front Office were very accommodating and  checking-in was super fast! I also got to meet their Operations Manager Sir Luigi which was so friendly and warm.

When I entered the elevator, “Wow hi-tech!” hehehehe As you can see in the photo, the elevator control  looked cool! The elevator was also fast and reliable.

When I got off, first thing I noticed was this water dispenser. Hmmmmm…. I learned that it’s a Microtel standard to have a water dispenser in each floor. I really appreciate this a lot as I didn’t need to buy extra bottled water anymore. If you’re a backpacker on a really tight budget, this can really be a huge help since you can still enjoy eating intant food like cup noodles and coffee as well.

For this visit, I booked a standard sunset view room (which I got for around P4,000 ++ at Agoda.com). As I looked around, I tried to spot  its difference with a standard 5 Star Hotel.

Honestly, I loved my room a lot for it had all the basics I needed. Though the usual tea and coffee making facility, bathrobes, bedroom slippers and mini bar weren’t there, I was happy because all the ESSENTIALS were within reach! Most important of all, my room was squeaky clean with good smelling sheets, enough pillows, a clothes drawer, lcd tv with cable which had a tv guide, enough room lighting, a mini ref and electric sockets beside the bed for easy phone charging! WOW! Everything I need!

I immediately rushed to the toilet (not to poop of course), to check if they had the 2 vital things which I always look for……..

And to my surprise….. Tadah!!!!

After feeling much satisfaction with my room, I asked assistance if I could also check their Suite Room so in case I decide to stay here again, I can book it next time.

Their suite room was more spacious which came with a cute living room, a table for two….

a divider to separate the bedroom

plus a mini kitchen with a tea and coffee making facility, mini ref and microwave oven.

As for the toilet and bath, the only difference was, it had a bathtub instead of a regular hot and cold shower.

As for the food, at first I thought I’d just swing by Mall of Asia anytime for my meals, but the next morning, when I availed my free breakfast buffet at Millie’s (their main and only restaurant), I was very impressed with the quality of food they served….

Though the choices were quite limited having only around 4 main dishes, all of them were highly satisfying! After discovering the good food served at Millie’s, I’ve decided to have all my meals there during my stay!

After that filling breakfast, I’ve decided to go up the roof deck to see what’s there…

OOOHHHHH!!! I didn’t expect to see this! I know most budget hotels don’t usually have pools, so I was surprised to see this lovely site. If Frank were here, he’d enjoy this for sure! This is another great reason to take the family here at Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia as they can enjoy swimming while the sun sets!

Since I wasn’t in the mood to swim alone that day, I’ve decided to just spend the rest of the afternoon at the roof deck, doing one of the things I love the most…. eating!!! lols

That quiet afternoon, I got to savor comforting food and a breathtaking view of  Manila Bay. Heavenly!

Experiencing the Manila Bay sunset here at Microtel is simply magical! Another ideal place for couples and romantics!

Nighttime came and after feasting inside my room, I stood by the window to appreciate the night scene…..
