Metropolitan Theater Needs More Volunteers for Cleanup in March and April

The renovation of the Manila Metropolitan Theater is in full swing, and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is calling on interested volunteers who want to join the restoration.

The cleanup drive will last until May, and there are still openings for cleanup sessions on March 19, and April 16 and 30. Interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up on the link posted on the Facebook page of METamorphosis, a support group for the restoration.

There will only be 60 volunteers per day, and the names of accepted volunteers will be posted on the page before the assigned date.

For those who are accepted, registration starts at 8am and the cleanup will be from 9 to 11am.

There will be an orientation before the start of the session.

Last August, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released P9.

48 million for the renovation of the Met, an 84 year old cultural treasure and one of the very few Art Deco structures in the Philippines still standing.

This was done after DBM released P270 million to the NCCA to buy the building from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

The restoration is expected to finish in two years, and will be a mini Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and a “people’s theater.”
