The coconut rum is one that brings back many memories…. well…. at least the memories that I remember….
I was sent on a flurry flashback of my college days at San Diego State University! Back in the day when Ice Cube and Easy had every ninja talkin’ bout “Boy you can’t F with me…”
Oh, sorry about that TQ Westside lyrics rant, but yeah as I was saying, hearing about coconut rum brings back the party memories… well…. at least the memories I can remember!
My buddies and I ALWAYS threw the best parties in college, over by the San Diego State University party houses! We had the best costume parties and the best theme parties out there! From Superhero parties, Sushi and Saki nights, Wine tastings and even Blackout raging parties, we had it down like Charlie Brown!
One of our favorite themed parties was our “Bartender Night” parties. These nights were rare because of the amount of time it needed to plan them. See a “Vince Golangco Bartender Party” consisted of my friends and I elaborately planning out the night where every invitee is carefully selected and assigned to bring one specific bottle of alcohol and one mixer. This was vital in creating the drink menu for the party and being able to properly curate the intimate cocktail tasting affair. Moreover, bartending nights involved… well… ME… bartending all night long… mixing all the carefully assigned booze and mixers and creating all sorts of different shots where everyone got to try out all these cool cocktails and concoctions!
Usually, a night out in San Diego going to the bars would really take a toll on your wallet. $5, $10, $15 and even $20 shots or drinks!!!! That’s like a thousand pesos for one bloody shot!
Wherever you may be in the world, you will definitely miss the San Diego nightlife once you’ve had a taste of it.
On the other hand, trying out all the different kinds of drinks with cool names was always a favorite for any creature of the night from California, and the rest of the US.
Drinks like Red Headed Sluts, Kamikazes, B-52s, Adios Mother Fuckers, Blowjobs, Chocolate Cakes, Incredible Hulks, Purple Hooters, Sex on the Beach, Three Wise Men and so much more! Titles that just beg you to give them a shot… literally.
But with all that, and with my vast amateur bartending experience, I noticed that one ingredient always stood out from the rest: Coconut Rum.
The number one favorite drink that the ladies requested was a Scooby Snack.
A Scooby Snack is made with
1 oz Coconut Rum
1 oz Midori Melon Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
Mixed with Whipped Cream
And this sweet sweet drink had all the ladies screaming Scoobydoobydooooome!
Anyway, lots more other cool drinks needed the exquisite coconut rum like the Bahama Mama, the Pina Colada, the Flying Purple Squirrel, the Tropical Titty Twister, the Mai Tai, the Pierced Nuts, the Necrophiliac and more!
These were the perfect shots and drinks for the even crazier parties we had.
So with all those great shooters you can make with some good coconut rum, you can imagine how excited I was to find out that we’re getting our own local version of this. Curtain call for the Boracay Rum!
Now, the taste of the beach, or Boracay, is just a shot glass away!
So the only real question now is…. where will I be partying next with this new Boracay Rum?!?!
Hopefully, I’ll be partying hardcore in Boracay so I can experiment with this new flavor!
