Science is everywhere. Being the study of our natural world, science continues to fascinate and tingle our curiosity about our surroundings. Science produces life-long learners. Especially in today’s fast-paced society, we use scientific concepts and theories to create technologies that can improve our lives.
Being a former STEM student, I am really fascinated by how biology, chemistry, physics and even math is applied in our world today. Well, apparently, science can be seen in some cafes here in the Philippines.
Located across Teacher’s Camp, Meal Lab is said to be the first of its kind in the Philippines’ summer capital. Envisioned to be a place to celebrate both the love for science and love-at-first-sight dishes, Meal Lab is among the cafes that stand out in Baguio.
Initially planned to be a meatball food cart, this science-themed restaurant was pioneered by the Quiwa and Wong clans last May. Being the first of its kind in Baguio, Meal Lab worked around the concept by using lab equipment like beakers, graduated cylinders, test tubes, and the like.
Yvette Quiwa, Head Chef of the restaurant shares, “In Meal Lab, you can expect the food to have the 4Ms (Malaki, Masarap, Marami, Mura). It is also Instagram-friendly and has interactive presentations topped with hands-on customer service for a great experience.”

Fish Tacos – Php185
Are you a fan of Mexican-style tacos? Meal Lab’s rendition of the classic fan favorite won’t disappoint. Breaded fish strips are covered with a generous serving of pico de gallo, cabbage strips, their house green sauce, and cheese sauce on soft flour tortillas.
Cheesy Meat Sandwich – Php195
Who doesn’t love a good sandwich? Meal Lab’s take on the classic grilled cheese sandwich features seasoned meat, caramelized onions, jalapeno bits, and creamy cheese sauce smothered on a big piece of Ciabatta bread. Served with sweet potato chips on the side, this is what a lot of people keep coming back for!

For the die-hard carnivores out there, this is for you! Barbecued pork ribs are served on a bed of gooey cheese sure to make you crave for more. Served with rice and coleslaw, this is a sure winner for any meat lover (like me)!
