Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ Is Finally A No. 1 Hit After 25 Years

We all know the song, we’ve all heard it played on the radio or in the mall or during a Christmas party, so this may come as a surprise but Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You has never actually been Billboard Hot 100’s top hit. This year, that’s finally changed.

Mariah’s 1994 carol recently claimed the top spot on Billboard’s chart this December 21. It was originally released as part of Mariah’s album Merry Christmas and reached the Hot 100’s top 10 last December 2017. The following year, it rose to No. 3 during the holiday season.

The achievement also makes this Mariah’s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, further securing her record for the most No. 1 hits among soloists. It brings her closer to reaching The Beatles’ overall-record of 20 Hot 100 No. 1’s as well. The current rank stands as The Beatles (20), Carey (19), Rihanna (14), Michael Jackson (13), and Madonna and The Supremes (12 each).

The Hot 100 determines its rankings based on all-genre U.S. streaming, radio airplay, and sales data.
