MALASIMBO FESTIVAL 2017: Revel In Music & Visual Arts

The Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is an annual festival in Puerto Galera flocked to not just by locals, but also people from all over the world. The first time that I heard about the Malasimbo festival, I thought it was like any other music fest. Was I ever wrong.

It’s on an island known for its beaches, so of course, for that reason alone, I wanted to go. Year after year, I resolved to go yet I never really pushed through so when we received this year’s Malasimbo invite, I jumped at the opportunity. I arrived on the white sandy shores of Galera excited for the music extravaganza.

On the first evening of the 3 day event, I was greeted by beautiful light fixtures an art installations. Just walking into the venue was a treat.

The atmosphere was very chill – literally because the event takes place atop a mountain. Spirits were high as people waited for the performances to begin. By early evening, the music began.

The festival performers include local favorites and unique foreign acts. The line up was always superb and the visuals amazing.

Malasimbo2017-10

The mood was definitely unlike any other music fest I’ve been to. It was fun, laid back, artsy but unpretentious.

Other highlights of the festival include the silent disco, the laser hula hoops, and fire dancing!

For two more days, the music didn’t stop on Mt. Malasimbo and no one was complaining.

Malasimbo2017-12

If you think about it, it really is, quite literally, a bunch of people from all over the world coming together on top of a mountain in a little archipelago in Southeast Asia enjoying a night of music and art. And somehow, I am happy to have been a part of that.
