Luk Yuen: A Family Favorite for a Reason
Like most Filipino families, one of my family’s favorite pastimes during the weekends is malling. That includes walking around, looking around, watching movies and occasionally buying stuff in the mall. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without the food, though.
Luk Yuen is a Chinese-themed restaurant that offers a casual ambiance, friendly and attentive crew and affordable, hearty Chinese dishes that will truly please your tastebuds.
Here are a few of my family’s personal favorites that will surely make your mouths water:
First up, we have the Chicken Feet with Chili for the appetizer. There are 3 pieces per serving that have the right amount of spice, sweetness and flavor that will truly get you more excited for the main course.
Now, what’s Filipino dining without rice, right? If you’re the type who loves different textures and varieties when it comes to your food, the Luk Yuen Yang Chow Fried Rice would be the best thing for you! It has veggies, eggs and shrimp! Yes, shrimp! An order can usually serve 2-3 people, but at the low price of 180pesos, another plate would not be a problem for a larger group!
Next up is the Deep Fried Cuttlefish. What’s great about Luk Yuen is that their CCuttlefish is cooked just right, so it’s not rubbery, which is sometimes a problem when cooking cuttlefish.
Another seafood course we had was the Stir-Fried Shrimp with Cashews. This dish has fresh, mixed vegetables that adds texture in contrast with the softness of the shrimp.
The cashews are sweet and crunchy, as well, and I found it quite surprising that cashews can actually add that much flavor to a dish!
Last but not the least, is the Peppercorn Spareribs. Fried until golden brown and crispy, this is nothing like your ordinary homemade porkchop.
It has a kick of spice, saltiness and crunchiness on the outside, but it’s totally juicy and soft on the inside.
