Kagayhaan Music Festival: The Next Big Thing in Cagayan de Oro

Kagayhaan Music Festival Poster

Kagayhaan is the first music festival of its caliber in the Visayas & Mindanao region showcasing quality indie band and electronic dance music from all over the Philippines to the millenials of Cagayan de Oro and neighboring cities. To be held on August 29, 2015 during the weekend of Higalaay Festival, the event will be a full day of love, music and dance.

Founded by Enzo Belen, whose recent Malasimbo Festival 2015 volunteer stint ignited him to finally take the plunge and put up a music festival in his hometown. Volunteering in Malasimbo also opened the gates for him to meet the team he’s working with for Kagayhaan. The people behind the festival are rooted in uplifting the quality of music entertainment and raising the bar for creativity throughout the untapped regions in the Philippines. Kagayhaan Music Festival aims to cultivate a venue for music; one where everyone is part of the community “mga higala na nag tipon”. Together with the Higalaay Festival, Kagayhaan aims to create a sustainable music event that can last the years.

Kagayhaan seeks to promote a diverse range of music for the Northern Mindanao audience, from indie bands to electronic dance music DJs. The festival wishes to promote 3 assets of the city; the first is to cultivate culture—to manifest through the meeting of creative minds and through a culture of festival participation. Second, the festival wishes to create a buzz about the city, which stimulates tourism to further enable Cagayan de Oro City to increase business opportunities for local markets and industries. Finally the third goal the festival wishes to develop is to reaffirm Cagayan de Oro as a destination which provides adventure, nature, and culture-rich activities; to endorse Cagayan de Oro’s status as a center for culture and entertainment in Northern Mindanao. Aside from this, Kagayhaan strongly believes in social responsibility where the festival gives back to the community. Percentage of the festival proceeds would go to the Mindanaw Tribal School, Inc. to fund the construction of their classrooms and aid their teachers. Architect Dan Lichauco of Archion Architects has pioneered the schematics for MTSI’s infrastructure, and the festival aims to raise funds to bring to life these plans.

Mapawa Nature Park, a forest within the city, will host the the next big thing that Cagayan de Oro will ever witness. It’s the best location for a one-of-a-kind-experience as it is close to the city center while at the same time still allows for a deep commune with nature. The park would allow tourists and locals alike to see a different side of Cagayan de Oro.

Deuce Manila pioneered the festival’s launch at Club XS, Cagayan de Oro, May 8 with local CDO electronic musicians Thisbeing X Megan with an exclusive collaboration with the representatives of Mindanaw Tribal School Inc. The launch of Kagayhaan Music Festival was made possible thanks to the support of local CDO establishments, like Club XS and Magic 89.3. Lodging provided by the newly opened GC Suites and meals provided by Gulp JuicerySomething Sweet by Ann and 678 Chicken; collaterals by Ink 2 Go and a holistic experience of CDO by Bugsay River Rafting.

Kagayhaan Music Festival on August 29, Saturday, will stage locals of Visayas and Mindanao—Thea Pitogo, Arthur, Kaapin, Loop Iligan who was just nominated for Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the Indie Rock Awards and many more. To perform with Manila heavyweights—She’s Only Sixteen who has been named by Status Magazine as one of the most promising bands of today, The Ransom Collective who won Wanderband and placed 2nd in a global competition for indie bands. As the night progresses and energy rises, DJs will take on the stage—The Zombettes, supermodels turned into full-time DJs, a duo frequenting music festivals and clubs all over the Philippines and No Class, a Producer/DJ duo from Norway will surely keep up the crowd’s energy. Tickets are already available at our partner CDO establishments – Chino’s Deli, Abrillo Furniture, Sattae Grill, and Ababu Persian Kitchen.
