JK Rowling accused of being transphobic by netizens

Oh, Rowling. What have you got the internet murmuring (or screaming) about now?

So here’s what went down: Center for Global Development employee Maya Forstater (pictured below) was fired after she tweeted about how there are only two sexes and that people could not change their biological sex. Many people found these tweets offensive and transphobic and she quickly drew flak for her statements on social media. She filed a case against her former employer but lost earlier this week.

Enter JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, who has already been accused in the past of her forced inclusivity and hamfisted pandering to different minority groups long after the books had been published. In her own tweet (above), she stated that she stood with Forstater.

This drew the anger of many netizens everywhere, calling her statement transphobic and accusing her of not being a true advocate of the LGBT+ (of which the “T” stands for transgender). She trended worldwide for her statement and netizens were quick to call her a TERF (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist) and a transphobe.

This is not the first time Rowling has been accused of transphobia. Last year, she was accused by fans of being transphobic when she liked a tweet that called transgender women “men in dresses.”
