PBA star Jimmy Alapag marked another milestone in his coaching career as he will partake in Sacramento Kings’ coaching staff for the upcoming NBA season. On Facebook, he proudly announced that he will join Mike Brown’s staff as a player development coach.
“A DREAM COME TRUE… Proud to announce I’ll be joining Coach Mike Brown and his staff as a Player Development Coach for the upcoming NBA season. Incredibly blessed and thankful for this opportunity,” [sic] he wrote.
In 2021, the former Gilas Pilipinas captain served as assistant coach of Stockton Kings, the G League affiliate of Sacramento Kings. Prior to this, he was also among the Sacramento Kings’ assistant coaches headed by Bobby Jackson, who guided the team to win the NBA Summer League title in Las Vegas.

The 45-year-old thanked everyone, particularly Brown and his staff, including Jackson, who supported him in his coaching journey. “Last but definitely not least, my wife @thelollicakechic and my kids. You guys are my inspiration everyday!! God is Good!!!” he concluded.

Dubbed as “The Captain,” Alapag played 12 years for TNT Tropang Giga and two years for Meralco Bolts. He is a six-time PBA champion and 11-time All Star. During the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and 2014 FIBA World Cup campaign, he also made remarkable stints that helped the Philippines earn titles.
Following his retirement in 2016, Alapag became the coaching chair for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League. In 2020, he moved to the United States to continue his coaching career.
