Jeepney Drivers in Makati City to Receive Financial Aid from LGU

Jeepney drivers residing in Makati City will be able to receive financial aid from its local government unit following the suspension of mass transport services during the enhance community quarantine placed over the entire Luzon amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

PHP 2,000 worth of financial assistance will be provided by Makati Mayor Abby Binay to the 1,826 registered members of the Makati Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (JODA), according to a statement released on March 21.

“We empathize with them and want to give them something to help tide them over for a few days. We know this is not enough, but I would like to assure everyone that more help is on its way,” she said.

Jeepney drivers must apply online through this link or call the designated hotline for financial assistance in their barangay. They may also opt to secure an application form from their barangay and submit a fulfilled copy.

Once their application is approved, the cash will be delivered straight to their homes.

This announcement comes days after the Makati government has pledged to provide the same financial aid to its 5,952 tricycle driver residents in the city. According to Mayor Binay, the PHP 2,000-worth of assistance will cover the first two weeks of the community quarantine.
