Javier Bardem Might Be Playing King Triton In ‘The Little Mermaid’

It seems like Disney has been eyeing Oscar winner Javier Bardem to play King Triton for The Little Mermaid live-action remake. It’s been reported by Deadline that the actor is currently in talks with the studio to play Ariel’s father and King of Atlantica.

Bardem is known for his role as Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men where he won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. His other notable work include Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Skyfall, Eat Pray Love, and Mother!

This is sad news for people who were expecting Terry Crews to be picked for the role after he nominated himself for it.

Halle Bailey will be starring as the titular mermaid and Harry Styles and Melissa McCarthy are reportedly in talks for the roles of Prince Eric and Ursula respectively. There’s no news about when the film will come out, but it’s safe to say that it’s going to be Disney’s offering after Mulan.
