No worries, we’re not gonna push it out of the dinner table. Since we, Filipinos, love eating rice in every single meal, it’s time to mix it up a little and excite your taste buds as often as possible! Ready to make rice more interesting? Here are five easy-peasy ways to spice it up.

5. Mixed Veggies Fried Rice

Got some left-over rice on the fridge? Stir it in the pan and add your vegetables of choice like carrots, green peas and kangkong. Pour in soy sauce, season to taste with salt and pepper, and add scrambled eggs. Mix them all together and voila! You have your mixed veggies fried rice.

4. Turmeric Rice

Liven up your steamed rice with turmeric. Simply add water, salt and turmeric powder on sautéed rice and let it simmer for a while. Yup, that’s it!

3. Java Rice

Heat atsuete oil in a pan. Sauté garlic then add ground pork. Add the plain rice and mix evenly. Season with salt and pepper.

2. Omu Rice

This one is basically ketchup-flavored rice blanketed in egg. Cook chicken in sautéed onions, add mixed vegetables, and season with salt and pepper. Add rice and your ketchup-soy sauce mix. Toss, stir and combine everything evenly.

On a separate pan, add scrambled egg with milk and make sure to flatten it. Put cheese and stirred rice on top of the egg. Fold both sides to cover the rice and drizzle ketchup on top of the rolled egg for a finishing touch.

1. Curry Rice

Sauté onion and garlic in oil. Add curry powder and rice, and stir it for a minute. Pour water and season with salt until cooked.
