Jasmine Curtis Smith expressed her disappointment over two malls in Taguig that allegedly denied block screenings of her newest horror film Maledicto in which she plays a young nun named Sister Barbie.
“Two malls in Taguig declined our block screenings because apparently they don’t screen local films anymore,” she said on Twitter.

She proceeded to retweet replies from her followers who have also shared their sentiments over theaters refusing to show local films. One of them said, “I also inquired at a small mall here in Pasig and they added me to their email list. I receive info on movies to be shown in advance and there are no local films on the lists,” to which Jasmine replied, “Ang lungkot. (So sad.)”

Ever since the premiere, Jasmine has been urging her fans to support her film amidst the widespread Avengers: End Game hype and to help keep it in theaters. According to a tweet she reposted, Maledicto only had three timeslots in a day and had to share a cinema house with The Curse of La Llorona.
“Help us stay in cinemas til the weekend pls,” she wrote. “It’s a really tough fight but I promise you that it’s worth the watch.”

Maledicto is directed by Mark Meily and written by Palanca award-winning writer Jonathan Guillermo, produced under Fox Networks Group Philippines. Tom Rodriguez and Miles Ocampo, among others, star alongside Jasmine.
